Best of 2007

1. Blue Scholars - Bayani
2. Cunninlynguists - Dirty Acres
3. DJ Muggs Vs. Sick Jacken - Legend Of The Mask and The Assassin
4. Brother Ali - The Undisputed Truth
5. Pharoahe Monch - Desire
6. Wu-Tang Clan - 8 Diagrams
7. Marco Polo - Port Authority
8. Percee P - Perseverance
9. Y Society - Travel At Your Own Pace
10. Common - Finding Forever
11. Talib Kweli - Ear Drum
12. Kanye West - Graduation
13. Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
14. Black Milk - Popular Demand
15. Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens
16. VA - QN5 Asterisk Vol 4
17. Movemeant - The Scope Of Things To Come
18. Consequence - Dont Quit Your Day Job
19. Atmosphere - Sad Clown Bad Summer (Number 9)
20. Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass

These are the albums I have most enjoyed, I placed Aesop Rock so low because imo he's too damn complex for someone that doesn't speak english as primary language. So, not able to fully understand his greatness, I still placed it on the list because it's a great album. I also included Atmosphere's EP because I bumped it all summer.

I was going to make a post similar to last year's... but I didn't have time, so, discuss.

I'm suprised you had Lupe up there so high. I really thought his first album was much much better than this recent one. I really don't think that The Cool is better than Graduation at all. I'd put Finding Forever above the Cool, and I didn't really like the common that much. Otherwise, solid list. I just got the Y Society album and i'm looking forward to checking it out

yeah a solid list, but smith and wessun was in my top 3 and you dont have it even in your list...

why no Shad? how about Lateef and Z-trip... those two would be my one-two...

I also really liked the Mac Lethal album.... he would be in my top ten... maybe top 5

Firstly...Dope List!
Should read more like this:
1) Percee P
2) Y Society
3) Marco Polo
4) Common
etc

HOWEVER...to each their own!

Anonymous said...

Indeed...what about Shad? The Old Prince was one of best Albums this year...

...and why is Pete Philly & Perquisite missing?
...much better than that new f***** Lupe!!!

Cant accept this Best of-List!

Maybe you should do a voting next year!!!

Aesop has got to be the number one, at least for me. I know that his lyrics are complex for none native english speakers, but nevertheless, killer album.
And you missed out El-P. Alone the first track, Tasmanian Pain Coaster, blows my mind.

Wow Kazeiro Wu Tang Diagram 8 number 6? I gave them one play and thanked the person from helping me not to waste my tim or money!! I respect your opinion just in question why? That album didn't do much for me in fact I thought they were an embarrassment to anything they represented and hip hop!! I still like Ghostface, GZA, and even some of RZA's stuff but their collaborative efforts have been null since Wu Forever!!The rest on here some I gave listens to some I havent' gotten a chance to but I have heard the ups go up for these artists throughout the years. And trust me Kazeiro I was true to the Wu but came to some reality that they are played 4 real!!! Happy New Years!!!

i guess "Mr j medeiros,Hocus pocus,
and "Evidence" should be on the list

Where's Phat Kat's Carte Blanche?

Chris said...

haha it seams to be always the same, people don't read what you've written in bold.. well nice list i got the same number one spot, it's hard to do those kinda lists every minute you get something new in your head or your opinions change..

Anonymous said...

man... from what i'm used to read here, you must be drunk when you wrote this list...

i haven't heard all of those records, not even lupe's, but i didn't really liked his other album... sounds like kanye, but younger and with a smaller ego (but not too small)

and why the fuck everyone likes so much kanye?!?! he is a good producer, but a lame MC... a few good tracks, but as an album artist, his too much of the same all the time!

in fact, i think he almost ruined common's album, which btw, it's a great album... that track, misunderstood... man... that's hiphop!

and wu??? wu-tang clan?!?! best of 2007??? you must be confusing the decade... best of 1997, no?!
when i heard raekwon's comments on RZA's decisions, i was really happy, but the album sucks! in every way! (unfortunally)

Marco Polo should be in the first 3! common! nothing new, right, but the "compilation" (i don't think of that as an album) was of the tops!

What about evidence, krs & marley? talib's should be up a few spots too... although that's not "the train of thought" it has some classic tracks!

From other posts i realized you're portuguese... no good portuguese rap this year? :)

And to the anonymous that commented above, Pete Philly & Prequisite's album is from 2006 (and sure one of the best 2006 albuns!). The remix album is from 2007 and it should be banned... those beats are so so so bad when comparing to the real album... it sucks!

anyway, great blog, although you are loosing the rhythm on those posts :P but it's really good to have a blog dedicated to good rap!

holla

Best of 2007:
Sanryse - "V.I.D.A.",
(that album changed my life! Best of 2007 IMO. It's an mid-to-old-school portuguese rapper).

United States (in no particular order): Evidence, Blu & Exile, Brother Ali, Black Milk, Jay-Z, Cunninlynguists, Lupe, Pharoahe Monch, Marco Polo, Talib, Y Society...

Peace y'all!

don't put wackass Aesop among all of those dope releases... he is truly the most unskilled rapper alive. wack beats, wack rhymes, wack live show as i experienced it couple of months ago.. he's a loser

Kazeiro said...

anonymous, got a link for sanryse?

give the kid a break.

his favourites of 2007, not your favourite 2007.

some picks i would choose as well, some picks i wouldn't choose. could be much worse imo.

Kazeiro said...

Ok, I made a few changings, not because of what people said, but beacause I made the list quite randomly, and I gave some albums a couple of more spins... and here's what I think:

1. You people are right, The Cool is not that good, but it's still a good album imo.

2. Say what you want about the Wu.. it's not 96, but I really liked the album, so what?

3. Of course that there has been more good albums this year, look at KRS-One for example, the album's great... but after a couple of spins I think it gets a big boring, it has some amazing tracks thought. Evidence's album is also good, but it just didn't made my top 20, along with Ghostface, Mr. J. Medeiros and some others.

4. Kanye's album got some shit tracks, and he says the same all over again, I know, but I liked it, I've found myself listening to some tracks over and over again, so of course it would make my list.

5. I don't think Pete Philly & Prequisite's albums are as good as the debut, deal with it.

And Portuguese Hip-Hop kinda passed me by this year... if you know good albums (and links if possible), please drop a comment.

Kazeiro,

I'm don't have any links to Sanryse's album...
I buy'd it... you should do the same.
If you like Real Hip-Hop (like I know you do) you won't be disappointed, it's a great album!

Support our real artists (tuga). Eu tb deixei de comprar albuns desde que se tornou fácil sacá-los na net; mas HH-Tuga de qualidade vale a pena comprar. Só assim será possível os artistas brindarem-nos com mais albuns.

BTW... nice blog

Kazeiro, in my list I would definitely include:
Krs-One & Marley Marl "Hip hop lives"
Sharkey & C-ray Walz "Monster maker"

P Monch's "Desire" is probably my #1 for 2007.

Need to thank you again for the Y Society "Travel At Your Own Pace" album, which is in my top 5, and also for Brother Ali "The Undisputed Truth", that I discovered here.
Hope you'll keep up the great job in 2008!

Kazeiro let me be the first to say that every body listens to hip hop music and gets something different from it. For the year 2007 there wasn't much that got a second play from me,a hip hop record has got to have attractive lyrics for me which with most albums now come to fa in between!!! You did fine in your list for some nice underground stuff. I see you like the Wu album but I stick to my guns with that one I don't wate the time playing it in fact I left it on the Chinese restaurant counter for some kid tht was interested!!!

slept on the static selectah album, hu?

personnaly I haven't heard all of these albums in the list but I'll try to check them. I really liked the Moka Only that isn't on this list. Where would you guys rank it?

Kid, you're list is tight! Good catch on that Brother Ali - Dope!Lupe's album is very nice, don't sleep. Wu was good, maybe a little too high, but still a good LP and belongs on the list. Only glaring misses I see are UGK (don't really like gangsta rap much anymore, but they brought the heat) and Scarface, which just came out at the end of the year and is probably in the top 5. All-in-all solid list... maybe a few on there that I gotta give another apin, and will do so in your honor.

Big Up for 2008!

I never got gave the Blue Sky Black Death- Razah's Ladder a good listen but i just went out and bought it and shits hot!! give it a listen if you havent already .. But Blue Scholars and Cunninlynguists are probably my two favs of the yaer also... I never heard the VA- QN5 album tho.. any links out there?

Please, give anything

I would add Panacea's Scenic Route! and Y Society's Number 1!, Wu's album is horrible (Even the members of Wu said it is), Kanye West (Commercialised bullshit), Brother Ali (Nice album), Marco Polo (Production is nice, but i can't listen to any of the tracks fully apart from Masta Ace's track, Percee P (Compare that album to Sick Lyrical Damager Ft. Percee P - Respect Costs More than Money) then you will realise how bad he's gone!, Common's was nice Sick of the Repetitive Kanye production! Needs Dilla's (RIP) beats again, Pharoahe Monch's was average, Mr. Porter was on way to many tracks (But at least it was'nt no commercial Simon Say's crap) Peace x

Anonymous said...

Nice list.

You should check out Peanut Butter Wolf Presents 2K8: B-Ball Zombie War.
Its def in my top 10 for 2007.

Havnt heard Movemeant - The Scope Of Things To Come thouugh, cant seem to find it so if someone has a link...
