Anyone still here?

Just to let y'all fellas know that I'm still alive and listening to that good shit while building my digital universal hip-hop library. The reason from my absence is that I kinda got a life meanwhile (I was like 14 when I made this blog, I bet y'all didn't know about that eheh).
I've just started this facebook page to let you guys know what I'm listening and we'll see where we'll go from there:

https://www.facebook.com/rapdungeon

If any bloggers or readers from the old days are still here, feel free to say hi, it would be good.

PS: I got some of the collections updated to this very day. I may do some re-uploads if people think it's worth.

Peace!

A voice that won't be forgotten

RIP Keith “Guru” Elam: July 17, 1966 – April 20, 2010
Last night one of my favorite artists died of cancer-related causes, if you followed this blog at its best days, you know that Guru was very important to me, since his album Jazzmatazz vol.1 was one of the albums that got me into Hip-Hop, and I can honestly say that there would never be no rapdungeon without Guru, just like a lot of our favorite mc's wouldn't ever rhyme if they cheard Gang Starr first. I'm glad I had a chance to see him perform live and to have his autograph (as you can see in the picture). R.I.P. Guru, your voice and importance to Hip-Hop will never be forgotten.

Chino XL cover

Yo, wassup people? I got the Chino XL collection almost ready, here's how it looks, with a few more freestyles to add.

The thing is, I'm not really good in creating covers and I'm out of ideas to it, so I'm asking you RD-fans if you're skilled with designs, please send me an album art.

It must contain:

  • www.rapdungeon.blogspot.com presents:
  • the chino xl collection
  • a pic of chino xl (a cool one, not one of those corny pics of chino flashing his muscles please)
  • creativity

Here's your chance to contribute to Rapdungeons, please send me your creations and I'll pick my favorite. I don't really have nothing to offer as reward, but I have a vast collection of mp3 files with some rare stuff, so I guess I can hook you up with something rare that I have and you're missing. I'll think of something.

Thanks

Chali 2na [2009] Fish Outta Water

When I first started this blog, my first post was a Jurassic 5 album, which is a group that I always liked but have recently broke up. And since 2005 I think, that 2na has been saying that he would release a solo album. The album has arrived, and the real question is: is Chali 2na able to hold an album of his own? Y Society still killing it

Ok first of all, watch this video, it's amazing, and after 3.50min you'll be blown away.

Remember Y Society? I posted their album in 2007 and it was amazing then, and guess what? They haven't blown up yet and are still amazing now. They have released a Free online EP with only 3 tracks, one of them is from the video above:

1. Same Beat (Damu Vocal Version)
2. Same Beat Live Freestyle - Y Society feat. Breeze (at WKCR FM)
3. This Advice - Y Society

And if you've seen the video, I don't even need to tell why you should download it NOW here.

More info about it here.

Alive & Vibrant

Nero [2009] Alive & Vibrant

I have to admit that I usualy ignore most of the stuff from unkown rappers that I've never heard about, ignoring new talent is not the best thing to do but I just don't have time to listen to every new rapper that comes out or every mixtape that people email me. So it's not everyday that I discover a new MC that I like, actually, if you're new, you need to be really good to catch my atention. But this week, I've listened to someone that I really enjoyed: the kid's name is Nero and this is how he sounds:

And this mixtape features him rapping over 90's classics with the prodution handled by Mike Waxx of Illroots... oh, and did I mention that Nero is only 16? Forget about Bow Wow or Soulja Boy and all those clowns, this is the best thing I've heard from a young MC since Shyheim's debut album. It makes you see that some (rare) rappers of this this generation (my generation) still know who paved the way and want to make good music.

2. I Get Lyrical
3. Buck ‘Em Down
4. Straighten It Out (Ft. J.Rocwell & TreaZon)
5. Alive & Vibrant

De La Run

De La Soul [2009] Are You In?

"As groups like Organized Konfusion, Brand Nubian and A Tribe Called Quest motion to reunite and make new music, Hip Hop must remember that De La Soul has never broken up – even hinted to it, never pursued solo interests and never damaged the brand that has worked for them for 20 years. Hip Hop’s hippies no more, the three gentlemen from Long Island made it cool to be conscious, just as much as they influenced inside slang, mosaic sampling and in doing so, released three truly classic albums, with four more year-end-toppers to boot. Forever independent, De La Soul teamed with Nike to release Are You In?, the latest in a series of workout-minded original bodies of work, sold digitally to promote the Oregon-based athletic brand, and their various De La collaborations. As expected, the release is up-tempo, and the beats tailor towards Freestyle and Electronic more than Jazz or Soul. Like that or not, the lyrics remain razor sharp, and this digital-only release is more worth of CD distribution than most of what’s been sold hand-to-hand. "
- HipHopDX
It's not a new De La Soul "album", but it's all new De La Soul music for the fans, enjoy.
While other sites have the original all-in-one-track mix, RAPDUNGEON has a version with individual mp3 tracks according to the tracklist.

01. Mornin’ Rise ft. Raheem DeVaughn
02. Good Morning
03. Big Mouf
04. Attack of the Stet
05. Pick Up the Pace (Run)

Ok, my last exam is tomorrow, and while I should be studying right now, but this just couldn't wait.

You know those things that you're waiting for so long that you've give up on them? Like:

Black Star reunion
Detox
Canibus releasing another dope album
World peace
Immortal Technique's Middle Passage

Guess what? It's not called Middle Passage anymore, but our friend Immortal Technique released a new album after 5 years of waiting! Holly shit!

It's an album-mixtape, mixed by DJ Green Lantern, who in the last month also released the amazing Nas - The Nigger Tape. So props to DJ Green Lantern, seriously. If you're waiting for tracks like "You Never Know" or "Harlem Streets" you're going to be disappointed, instead, Tech's new agressivity is really good, I think it's a great record.

I still have many albums to post, like 9th Wonder & Jean Grae's, Atmosphere's, Craig G & Marley Marl's (yup, that's right), Elzhi's, The Roots, Skillz, lots of great Hip-Hop has been recently released. I also got some tracks to update on my collections, and I guess I have to re-up them too, so I'll try to get back on top on the next weeks.

2 Years and running... well, kind off..

Just noticed yesterday that it's been 2 years since I started posting... damn, 2 years? A lot of thing have changed, a lot of albums have been posted. But lately... meh... things in the blog have gone straight downhill. When I look back at months like September 2006, when I made 22 posts in a month, and compare them to the last couple of months, I'm even ashamed of opening the blog. As I said before, school has been pretty ruff lately, and I rarely have spare time to listen to most of the albums that come out, so my posts are affected, and I disapoint my visitors.
But, if you think I'm going to close the shop, you're wrong. Rapdungeon is still here, and I hope to still be here a year from now. I still got 160+ Kool G. Rap tracks and 100+ Masta Ace tracks to to post on my collections somewhere in the futue (thanks to many people who have helped), I just need to have time to organise and complete them, which I don't have right now.

Meanwhile, one of the blogs that has been here from the start, from one of the first people who ever commented on rapdungeon has closed down. So go thank Biff and all his crew at their blog for all their work.

New post comming soon.

The Jazz is back

Jazz Liberatorz (2008) Clin D'oeil

Brand new album from this french group composed by DJ DAMAGE, DJ DUSTY and MADHI. If you're like me, you'll only need look at the group name and guestlist to know this is going to be REALLY good.
Like Brand New Heavies did 16 years ago (damn, 16?), the group makes jazzy music and invites great MC's to rap over, from Fatlip (Pharcyde), to Asheru, Sadat X or Apany B. I'm really tired so I won't write more, but I recommend this one. Jazz-rap is just one of the best things to ever being created.

1 - Clin d’Oeil
2 - Easy Mind feat. Tre Hardon, Fatlip & Omni
3 - i am Hip Hop feat. Asheru
4 - When The Clock Ticks feat. J. Sands
5 - Genius At Work feat. Fat Lip & T. love
6 - Indonesia feat. Tableek from Maspyke
7 - The Process feat. Apany B. Fly
8 - The Return feat. Saddat X
9 - U Do feat. Stacy Epps
10 - Cool Down feat. Rashan Ahmad
11 - Take A Time feat. Buckshot
12 - Vacation feat. J. Live
13 - Speak The Language feat. Lizz Fields

Back to the Future

Guru (2008) Jazzmatazz - Back to the Future (The Mixtape)

You know the Gang Starr days aren't comming back, not even the early Jazzmatazz days are comming back, and you also know what I think of Guru's new "Superproducer" Solar. Anyway, I'll still be checking everything that Guru drops, as wack as it gets. But this mixtape isn't wack, in fact, I found many of the tracks pretty good, besides the remixed tracks, it has collabos with Zion I, Lor Tariq, Aceyalone, Mr. Lif, C.Knowledge (of Digable planets) and the amazing Blue Scholars.
Unlike his other work with Solar, this actually has some Jazzy laid back beats that we all love to hear Guru rapping over. This > Jazzmatazz vol. 4.

1. Intro (Don Gurizzy)
2. Knowledge f. Lord Tariq
3. 7 Grand Ya'll f. Solar
4. For Ya Mind f. Zion I
5. Peace! f. K-Born / Highpower / Solar
6. State of Clarity (Solar Remix) f. Common
7. Who Got It On Lock f. Doo Wop
8. B-Boy Kamikaze f. Tony Touch & Doo Wop (Diaz Brothers)
9. Too Slice f. Yungun
10. So What It Do Now f. Aceyalone
11. We Got That f. Nature & Solar
12. Jazzy Wayz (7 Grand Exclusive)
13. Stand Up (Some Things'll Never Change) (Reggae Mix) f. Damian Marley
14. Hot Like That f. Medinah
15. No Need for Stress f. Mr. Lif
16. Back to the Future f. Caron Wheeler & C.Knowledge (Digable Planets)
17. Assasino f. Young Pablo
18. The Game Needs Me f. Blue Scholars & Common Market
19. Feed the Hungry (Solar Remix)
20. Can't Stop the Movement (7 Grand) f. Ms. Camille
